Now in its thirty-fourth year, the summit is spearheaded by Fil-Am women’s rights leader and advocate Irene Natividad.

The event serves as a platform for women from government, the private sector, and civil society to exchange impactful strategies. This year’s theme, “Women: Energizing Economies of the Future,” received support from multinationals like IBM, Accenture, Oracle, Salesforce, and many others.

Castañeda joined the Philippine delegation, which included notable figures like former foreign affairs secretary Delia Albert and Aurora Geotina Garcia of the Philippine Women’s Economic Network.

“As a female-led company with a strong presence of women leaders, DBSA is deeply committed to gender equity and diversity. Our participation at the Global Summit of Women underscores this commitment,” Castañeda said.

Castañeda also had the opportunity to engage with the Filipino business community in Spain through the invitation of Philippine ambassador Philippe Lhuillier, meeting overseas Filipino workers who contribute to Spain’s economic growth.

DBSA country director signs MOA to bolster climate actions

May 2024 – In a significant step toward environmental preservation, Dr. Krees Castañeda, country director of Drake Business Services Asia (DBSA), participated in the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga represented the DENR in this pact.

This MOA aims to boost the country’s climate actions and other environmental initiatives. MAP members will focus on communication programs that resonate with DENR’s key priorities, including clean air and carbon emission reduction, solid waste management, and the national greening program.

A proud member of MAP, DBSA has consistently demonstrated its dedication to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. The company’s recent ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) certification reinforces this commitment.

“Our partnership with MAP will enhance our ESG initiatives, starting with a tree-planting activity in Tanay, Rizal, this August,” emphasized Dr. Castañeda.

The collaboration between DBSA, MAP, and DENR highlights a joint effort to foster sustainable practices and ensure a greener future for the Philippines.

August 2024 – ISO 14001–certified DBSA recently partnered with Glenn Banaguas and Fr. Ben Beltran, SVD, two Outstanding Filipino Laureates for a tree-planting activity in Tanay, Rizal.

Some 30 DBSA employees and their family members joined the activity, planting a total of 200 bamboo seedlings on a one-hectare plot. An additional 200 seedlings will be planted, and altogether, the bamboo planted is expected to sequester 126 tons of carbon. This volume will offset DBSA’s annual carbon emissions of about 100 tons.

“The participation of every DBSA employee plays a vital role in building a greener, more sustainable future for our community,” said event organizer Skynard Ibalio.

Joining the tree-planting activity was Reyn Allen, 6, who is the son of Reynel, one of DBSA’s messengers and the interim lead for workforce management. Reyn shared how he enjoyed being able to plant a bamboo seedling by himself.

“This tree-planting event is one of many initiatives DBSA has implemented to combat climate change and operate sustainably and ethically. The company has already transitioned some of its messenger teams to e-bikes to reduce environmental impact. We will continue to collaborate with our clients to manage carbon emissions and environmental impact,” said DBSA country director Dr. Krees Castañeda

DBSA’s messenger team for global bank transitions to e-motorcycles

November 2024 – DBSA is pleased to announce that its messenger team for one of the world’s largest banks has transitioned into e-motorcycles—a transformative partnership that marks an important milestone in DBSA’s journey toward a greener future.

This important development comes after DBSA renewed its service agreement with the global bank, a partnership that started in 2015.

By adding three e-motorcycles to its current fleet, DBSA will have decreased its total carbon emissions by 8.91% from 1,126,910.61 grams per month to 1,026,485.46 per month, saving a total of three trees monthly.

“By integrating e-motorcycles into our workforce, we are taking a bold step toward minimizing our carbon footprint. These electric vehicles offer a sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective alternative to traditional gas-powered vehicles, aligning with our long-term strategy for a cleaner, greener future. With each mile traveled by our e-motorcycles, we reduce emissions, cut down on air pollution, and move closer to our environmental goals,” said DBSA country director Dr. Krees Castañeda.

The bank’s support also enables DBSA to scale this initiative across its entire fleet.

“Their commitment to green solutions and renewable energy sources aligns perfectly with our values, making this partnership a natural fit. Through this collaboration, we are creating an ecosystem that encourages businesses to think beyond traditional practices, fostering an environment of innovation where sustainability is the key to success,” said Dr. Castañeda.
